We all know how easy it is to give advice but it’s not so easy to take it. Recently, I was going through a period of change and transition and my mind was spinning with all the options which lay ahead. So I decided to step back and look at the situation as I would for a friend and I wrote a letter to myself:
This year has been full of positive changes for you – new house, new car, new friends, new boyfriend, new travels, new challenges. However there has also been a lot of hard times, struggling with adjustments in the new house, adapting to a different routine and compromising on some things which maybe have been taken for granted before.
Although your head may be in a spin with everything that’s happened and everything to come, now is not the time to try and do everything. You have to sit back and pick one thing to be your focus.
A good tactic is to split your year ahead into sections, and then do the same for the coming year ahead. Think about how you want it to look like at the end of the year, what do you want to achieve? Dreams are not unattainable.
Look outside, see the sun shining, hear the birds singing, breathe in the fresh air and remember you are a small part of this extraordinary world. You are determined, you have a good team behind you. A family who support you, friends who have your back, a boyfriend who loves you – you are a force to be reckoned with! So keep doing what you love and keep striving for what you want.
Hold onto your hobbies – they allow you to stay grounded. Play in orchestra, see your friends, walk, dance, drink tea, watch the sunset, explore, travel, write and never give up on yourself, or your independence.
Listen to your heart, listen to your head, listen to your gut and do what feels right because now is your time.
You are loved, cherished and adored by those around you. Use their strength to fuel your ambitions and you will get to where you need to be.
From yourself (the one who has the perspective you need)
Change is scary for any of us but it is also one of the ways we can develop and get to where we want to be.
It can bring out a lot of worries too, which can be enough to throw you off course. However worries are just thoughts, not realities. Don’t let them consume you, be mindful.
Best of all, we don’t get opportunities to change very often and as you get older those opportunities become less and less as you start to settle. So embrace this time, welcome change with open arms and you will get everything you hope for.
Dream big, stay positive, act now.
