Week 48: Slay the Green-Eyed Monster

Jealousy is one of life’s challenges and is one of the things that often brings me down. You look at someone else’s life, inevitably though Facebook’s rose-tinted view, and think they have it all.

It’s important to remember that everyone struggles in the same boat with this, the grass is always greener on the other side! So you might think that their life is excellent but they probably think you’ve got a good deal too. Your friends aren’t going out there to make you feel bad about your life, they are simply showcasing the best bits of theirs – and so should you.

Not to say you have to go and Instagram everything you do on a day-to-day basis but if it makes you feel better to post good things on social media, then do it. But don’t think because you only get 5 likes or whatever that somehow you have failed.

Social media is only a measure of some of your friends and by no means is it the be all and end all when it comes to looking at your life. On average, people only post a small portion of what they do on Facebook for instance so for starters, you can’t see the full story. And would you really want to?

Make your life not just look good but make it good. Live it by your rules, not by comparing it to what others are doing. There is no comparison to be made. You have your life, they have theirs. When you come together, you share something, a moment, a fun time, but the rest of the time is yours to do as you please.

And next time the green-eyed monster makes an appearance, remember your life is just as wonderful as the next person’s and nobody should make you feel bad about what you choose to do with yours!
